Sociology Education Theory Practice Test

The idea being tested is that parental attitudes and the home environment play a crucial role in a child’s educational success, not just what happens inside the school. The Plowden Report, which examined primary education in the UK, emphasized that parental involvement, expectations, and support significantly influence a child’s learning from a young age. Douglas contributed to this line of thinking by highlighting how parents’ beliefs and attitudes shape a child’s motivation and achievement. Together, they are recognized in this context for illustrating how family factors can determine educational outcomes.

The other options focus on different issues. A civil rights case centers on desegregation, and a national risk report critiques school policy and standards rather than parental influence. While the Coleman Report is well-known for showing family background as a powerful predictor of achievement, this item specifically points to Plowden and Douglas as the sources highlighting parental attitudes.
